Fighting to Prove Yourself

Hi Emma,

Have you ever felt like you need to fight to prove your worth

Perhaps you don’t even realize you’re doing it. On the surface, it could look like:

  • Over-explaining or becoming defensive about your decisions
  • Giving too much and/or letting people trample your boundaries
  • Always going, going, going because you must be productive
  • Working overtime consistently, even when not necessary

Inside, you may feel like you’re letting someone else down if you aren’t performing at all times. Realistically, though, there really isn’t anyone looking over your shoulder, except your own self-judgement.

When you’re fighting to prove your worth, it becomes detrimental to your wellbeing in so many ways.

  • If you own a business, you probably aren’t charging enough for your services.
  • If you have family at home, you most likely aren’t spending quality, present time with them.
  • And I’m willing to bet you aren’t taking care of your own needs, like eating well (or on time), taking breaks, or experiencing ear-to-ear grinning fun.

Oh! And you are definitely exhausted. There’s no doubt.

The Reasons You Are Trying to Prove Your Worth

This proving pattern stems from unexpressed emotions related to your self-worth. These emotions derive from:

  • Situations from your past (childhood to adult)
  • Generational traumas (your parents and ancestors)
  • Unresolved experiences from past lifetimes

The emotions can get stuck in your body’s energy centers and cause you to feel inadequate.

Examples of How This Happens

Example 1: Say you are working extra hours every day, trying really hard to make a lot of money, even though you have more than enough to cover your bills. For some reason, it never feels like enough to you.

When we dig deeper, we find out that your mom didn’t pay attention to you as a kid. Without realizing it, you’ve been holding on to that emotion and constantly trying to prove yourself to her.

That money-driven attitude is a way for you to get her to one day acknowledge your success, even though she passed away several years ago. (This is a real client example.)

Example 2: In the image below, I have a testimonial from a client that has cleared several generational traumas from her own lifetime. We discovered (and released) a pattern that her mother held on to and passed down to her.
