Are We Having Fun?

“I’m having fun, aren’t you?” my pal Christie asked me.

At this very moment, we were in the midst of a 3+ hour wait to retrieve our checked luggage at the airport. Our flights (one very delayed, the other delayed and then cancelled) had left us stranded in Chicago for the night.

We had a hotel lined up, but we were stuck waiting for our bags, along with many other passengers.

So no, I was NOT having fun, and told Christie that. I was, however, feeling at peace – or mostly – with the situation. I couldn’t do anything about it, so why not accept it?

5 years ago, if I had been in this very situation, I probably would have been an anxious mess. Worrying about them losing our bags… worrying about finding a ride to the hotel… worrying about everything under the sun. But I’ve done a lot of work to get to a place of feeling acceptance in chaos and I thought that was worth celebrating all on its own.

Until Christie asked me if I was “having fun”.

It hit me like a load of bricks. Being asked this simple question, it became painfully obvious that I’m not done with this journey of growth. I still have more work to do, because I want to get to a place of finding the FUN in the most mundane or even stressful situations. Just like Christie.

While we were waiting around at the airport, she was happily doing stretches, listening to music and reading her books. And I mean HAPPILY.

In the journey of joy, Step #1 is finding more contentment with yourself. Then you can move along to creating more adventure, wonder, and fun in your weeks. I’ve realized, though, that I need to add a Step #3: learning to bring FUN into the stressful situations, too.

I’ve been pretty good at the first two steps (which is why I guide a Journey Back to Joy program through Rosa Joy), but this experience gave me a whole new goal to work towards!

Are you ready to join me on this challenge? Or have you already found fun in the mundane or chaos?

  • Get REALLY excited about your life, sometimes without even leaving the house!
  • Go from “nothing to talk about” to “she has the BEST stories in the office!”
  • Most people will write out a Bucket List but never do anything about it. I’ll show you how to take action so fast, your neighbors will be wondering where you’ve been!
