Have you ever heard of an Emotional Heart Wall? Most people haven’t. But it’s something common I see in my work as a Reiki healer.
Here are some questions to ask yourself to determine if you have a Heart Wall:
Do you find yourself too scared to open up and be vulnerable, even your closest friends?
Do you feel like you have a hard time connecting with people?
Perhaps you wonder what it’s like to have more empathy in a situation.
- Or maybe, you feel numb to everything and can’t figure out why.
If you’ve answered yes to any of these statements, you might have an emotional heart wall.
What’s a Heart Wall?
You’ve probably heard the saying, “built up walls around your heart.” That’s exactly what a heart wall is. It’s an emotional block you’ve put up to prevent being hurt from others.
When I’m doing Reiki for my clients, it’s become a pretty common occurrence to see a heart wall around someone’s heart chakra. Typically, 7 out of 10 of my clients had a heart wall the first time they had a Reiki session.
Most often, a heart wall presents when someone has a lot of unresolved trauma, heart break, anger, or loneliness in their past or present. But it can also come from our parents and ancestors, too!
I had a very thick heart wall when I first got into healing work. In fact, I went to a person who specializes in Emotion Code (that’s a story for a different day), and it took us 3 different sessions to release my heart wall. It had built up over time from stuffing my emotions down in my own life, but was also passed down from my mother and grandmothers’ generational pain.
Why would you want to get rid of a heart wall?
After dissolving a heart wall, you should be able to feel things much more – good and bad. You’ll be able to find more joy and happiness in every day life. You’ll understand your emotions better, and can connect with people on a deeper level. Being vulnerable with friends should feel easier.
In my own case, I didn’t realize it, but I had been pretty numb to how I felt towards myself and others. My love and empathy towards people are much greater, and all my relationships feel stronger, too.
It’s a big reason why I’ve been able to share more personal stories in these newsletters, too. I’m less scared of showing my heart and true self.
How do you know if you have a heart wall?
There are a couple ways to confirm that you do.
- 1. You answered yes to all the statements in the beginning of the email.
- 2. You can try the sway test and ask yourself if you have a heart wall.
- 3. You can contact me and I’ll do a quick check to see if you do (no charge, long distance).
If it’s important to you to be more connected with people, love yourself more, and build an understanding of your emotions, you will want to remove the heart wall.
