Be a Tourist

How did you do with the last Being Brave Challenge: getting out of your comfort zone?

Yesterday we visited the Rifle Falls State Park and I decided to get a little out of my comfort zone.

Here’s how: I walked to the edge of two different platforms that overlooked the falls. I’m terrified of heights, so I kind of crawled, but did get some good photos.

My boyfriend, of course, had no problem walking out to the edge.

That just goes to show that what feels like a brave act to you might not be to someone else. However, this is about your growth, and getting out of YOUR comfort zone.

We’re all on different journeys so it’s important to not compare to others.

Caption: Here’s a photo from that overlook platform. Somehow the picture is not blurry, despite my hands shaking.

This story leads into the Being Brave challenge this week: Be a tourist in your own community.

A few people I know have come up against obstacles this month, making it so they can’t travel far or take a vacation.

There’s still fun to be had, though, right in your own backyard.

Why not be a tourist in your own community?

You might think it’s silly to act like a tourist, but there’s a reason why you live in that area in the first place, and there’s also a reason why visitors enjoy vacationingin your community.

For example, before I moved to Colorado Springs in 2018, I loved visiting the Garden of the Gods Park. But as soon as I lived there permanently, I decided it was too much of a “tourist” activity for me to do anymore.

However, several months before moving out of the city, I decided to go back. And it was a lovely, serene experience to visit there again. Too bad I didn’t take advantage of it for the 5 years I lived there.

Ideas for Tourist Activities:

  • visit a state or national park
  • go sightseeing
  • shop at some boutique stores
  • book a massage appointment
  • sit in a hot tub or visit a hot springs resort
  • enjoy an adventure park, zoo, or museum
  • get dressed up and go out for a meal at a local hot spot

You’ll probably feel more connected to your area, meet some interesting people, and have a really nice time – possibly even an adventure!

As silly as it seems that this is “being brave”, I stand by it.

You have to set an intention and follow through with the idea of being a tourist, especially if you aren’t a natural explorer.

So go get around those vacationers, meet some new people, and truly enjoy experiencing a vacation in your own community!

As always, send me your stories about the challenge and how it went!

  • Get REALLY excited about your life, sometimes without even leaving the house!
  • Go from “nothing to talk about” to “she has the BEST stories in the office!”
  • Most people will write out a Bucket List but never do anything about it. I’ll show you how to take action so fast, your neighbors will be wondering where you’ve been!
